INTERNATIONAL MUSIC PROMOTION(IMP) is preparing the 6th INTERNATIONAL CLARINET COMPETITION GHENT (October 28-November 9, 2024).

Since the 1st edition in Kortrijk 2021 the INTERNATIONAL CLARINET COMPETITION GHENT (ICCG) became one of the main international clarinet competitions.  Its prizewinners became international soloists and/or obtained important positions in world-leading orchestras. IMP knows how important a good preparation can be, therefore it organizes a compact online competition focused on Belgian music :

INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION BELGIAN CLARINET PATRIMONY

Candidates send a video with a piece of their choice (chosen from the list below).  An international jury will select 10 of them (laureates). These 10 laureates will get the possibility to:

  • Present a program of 25’ for the EUROPEAN CLARINET CONGRESS TILBURG www.europeanclarinetcongresstilburg.com  (December 6-9, 2023).  Of course this is important to build up a personal network.
  • Follow masterclasses with (former) jury members of the ICCG and composers of the pieces.  This will be possible during the EUROPEAN CLARINET CONGRESS TILBURG and/or the DAY OF BELGIAN MUSIC in Ghent conservatory (December 10, 2023)
  • The first ranked laureates will be able to perform with the famous ZEMLINSKY QUARTET and/or the ATANERES ENSEMBLE : see further.

Registration Conditions

The INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION BELGIAN CLARINET PATRIMONY is an organization of INTERNATIONAL MUSIC PROMOTION (IMP). International Music Promotion is a Belgian legal non-profit organization.
This competition is open to all clarinetists from any nationality who were born after 1 January 1990. No exceptions will be considered for the age requirement, nor nationality, color, religion or conviction.
Prizewinners of the INTERNATIONAL CLARNET COMPETITION GHENT are excluded from participation.

The competition is an online competition.

Inscription

The closing date for the application of the online competition (with the video recording) is September 1, 2023.

Applications can only be made through the website of International Music Promotion.
The following documents needs to be uploaded into the application form:

  • an official document confirming the age of the candidate (birth certificate or copy of passport or identity card)
  • a short biography: max. 1400 characters in continuous English text (studies, schools, teachers, professional activities)
  • 1 recent photo (max 10MB)
  • proof of payment of registration fee (75€ net, cost shall be borne by the candidate). The application fee is non-refundable.
  • videorecording of chosen program via hidden YouTube link.

Only online applications will be accepted.

Registration fee

The registration fee for the ‘INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION BELGIAN CLARINET PATRIMONIUM’  is set at 75€ (seventy five euro) that is the only participation cost.

Cheques will NOT be accepted. The registration fee is not refundable in case of non-participation in the competition.
No mail communication will be answered.  You must add the proof of payment in the application form.

Arrival, accommodation and transport

Only the laureates will be invited for the masterclasses and/of the rehearsals for the concert.

If in case of corona you have to follow the restrictions made by the Belgian government.
IMP canhelp you to find cheap hotels/hostels/B&B, …This list can be obtained from the secretary upon request (). Laureates are RESPONSIBLE for their OWN booking and payment of these rooms and transport to and from the events.
The laureates must take out their OWN health and personal insurance for the duration of their participation (so for the DAY OF BELGIAN MUSIC/Ghent and/or for the EUROPEAN CLARINET CONGRESS TILBURG), in both cities and the trip to and from the venues. 
The organization of the competition shall under no circumstances be held responsible for injury, harm or illness of the candidate or his/her/X belongings during his/her/X stay in Ghent/Belgium and Tilburg/The Netherlands.

The prizewinners will be informed exactly where and when they are expected to be.  The rehearsals with the Zemlinsky Quartet will take place only during the EUROPEAN CLARINET CONGRESS TILBURG, that by the way is free of charge to participate (only the gala evening concerts will be paying). The laureates who are to perform with the Ataneres Ensemble will have the rehearsal on the day of the concert (December 10, 2023).

The laureates will present themselves at the inscription desk when they arrive in Tilburg or Ghent.

The competition and prizes

Candidates must choose for the online competition 1 piece from the following list :

The candidate sends the hidden Youtube videolink and the information through the online application form

An international jury will select maximum 10 laureates.
The first seven selected laureates get the change to perform during the closing concert at the DAY OF BELGIAN MUSIC (December 10, 2023) in the Miry Hall of the Royal Conservatory of Ghent.
The laureates who perform with the Zemlinsky Quartet will rehearse in Tilburg during the EUROPEAN CLARINET CONGRESS on December 8, 2023. The rehearsal with Ataneres Ensemble will be on December 10, 2023 in Ghent.

Piece that will be performed during the DAY OF BELGIAN MUSIC in Ghent are:

***        will be performed with the Atanares Ensemble (www.ataneres.com)

The laureates will have a contact (if possible) with the composers.

The organization will send the sheet music to the prizewinnersimmediately after their acceptance to participate in the concert and the rehearsal.  It is not possible to change the dates and location of the rehearsal.
IMP will choose which piece a laureate needs to perform during the DAY OF BELGIAN MUSIC in Ghent. The jury and/or composer can help in making this decision.

The laureates will be announced on the website of IMP on September 15, 2023.  On that day, those who will be invited to perform with one of the ensembles during the DAY OF THE BELGIAN MUSIC in Ghent (December 10, 2023) will also be informed.
All candidates will be informed by email about their results (including remarks and advices).

The laureates of the online competition will be announced on the website of IMP by September 15,  2023 at the latest and all inscribed participants receive an email with the results.

The participation in the masterclasses and/or the concert are the prizes of the competition.  Additional prizes can be offered.
The masterclasses and the concert are open to the public.  The concert of December 10 can be recorded.  In that case the laureates will get a recording that they can use as promotion material.


Prizes

IMP and the INTERNATIONAL CLARINET COMPETITION GHENT organize this competition as a preparation for the 6° INTERNATIONAL CLARINET COMPETITION GHENT.

The prizewinners will get masterclasses by (former) jurymembers of the competition and the composers.
They will be able to perform a recital (25’) during the EUROPEAN CLARINET CONGRESS TILBURG (December 6-9, 2023).
The first 7 laureates will be able to perform during the DAY OF THE BELGIAN MUSIC in Ghent (December 10, 2023).

The laureates can use the title LAUREATE OF THE INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION BELGIAN CLARINET PATRIMONY 2023.

There will be no payment for performances.
Additional prizes can be offered.

Jury

The jury will consist of a number of international soloist and pedagogues.
The decisions made by the jury are incontestable and cannot be disputed.

Masterclasses

IMP will organize masterclasses for maximum of 10 selected candidates in Tilburg (December 6-9,2023) and/or in Ghent (December 10).
The travel- and hotel costs are to be borne by the candidate. 

Pianists/accompaniments

The organization of the INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION BELGIAN CLARINET PATRIMONY will provide pianists for the recitals during the EUROPEAN CLARINET CONGRESS TILBURG.  There will be enough rehearsal time (identical with the time other performers get during the ECC).  But of course candidates can also bring their own pianist at their own cost.

Dispute

In the event of a dispute, only the Dutch-language regulations shall apply. No dispute is possible against this.

Participation in the competition

Participation in the competition means complete acceptance of the rules and regulations.

Privacy

The personal data of the candidate is only provided to the administration office of International Music Promotion / IMP and is only used for its organizations. Personal data is protected against irregular processing and is never passed on to parties with whom IMP has no processing agreement. The candidate can always request the personal data from IMP, view it and if necessary, correct it. The uploaded biography and photo of the selected candidates will be published in the program book of the ‘EUROPEAN CLARINET CONGRESS TILBURG’.
